The Newton Young Professionals are a group of entrepreneurs, civic leaders, and employees of companies of every stripe who are often still fairly new to their careers. We are the 22-year-old who grew up here, just finished college, and is beginning their first “real” job. We are the 26-year-old who was recently promoted to a supervisory position at a local manufacturing plant, and recognizes the importance of building their network. We are the 30-year-old who moved away for a few years after school, and is returning because they remember Harvey County as a great place to raise a family. We are the 34-year-old from the east coast who was sought out by a head-hunter for a local company, and isn’t going to stay in rural Kansas very long unless they can get plugged-in to the local community. We are the 38-year-old who is looking for the slower pace of Newton, and sees opportunity in buying a small business in our growing market. We are all this, and much, much more.
To fulfill our broad promise to our members and to the Harvey County community, Newton Young Professionals meet at least once a month in a variety of venues to network with one another over an informal lunch. We engage in social service projects. We create professional development opportunities. And we learn about the community in which we live, work and play.
Monthly opportunities to learn
Our Mission: The mission of the Newton Young Professionals is to assist hard-working individuals who live, work or socialize in the Harvey County area to expand their networks and to provide opportunities for community involvement and leadership development.
Our Vision: We do this by creating both professional development and community service events that expose our members to the economic, governmental, charitable and social climate in the Newton area and allow informal opportunities to build and maintain productive relationships.
Our monthly Lunch-N-Learns are an opportunity to learn more about the community and other educational topics relevant to young professionals.
NYP social events are free, informal get-togethers for networking and meeting new people.
Our community service projects have included creek cleanup, Wii Bowl for Kids’ Sake, and donation drives for various local benefits.
With so many members doing so many wonderful things in Newton and throughout Harvey County, it’s not unusual to see YPs in the local media. This section is a forum to note and celebrate promotions, job changes, civic accomplishments, etc. Please don’t hesitate to make NYP aware when you have been mentioned in the press so that it may be included here.
To begin the membership process, we welcome you to join our Facebook group at “Newton Young Professionals”. There, you can view our existing members, see our upcoming events, and enjoy pictures from past networking mingles.
Next, attend one of the events at no cost simply to get an idea of what we do. We know that you will find our members to be warm and welcoming, and the presentation given to be entertaining and insightful.
And finally, now that you have made the decision to join, talk to your employer or directly to the Newton Chamber of Commerce. Often, your employer will gladly pay the annual fee. If not, the monthly lunches which are paid for by your membership more than make up for the cost of your dues.

Looking to attract and retain younger employees? Research shows that when young professionals feel they can make a difference in their community, they are twice as likely to stay.
NYP provides opportunities for personal and professional development, mentoring, volunteerism and networking to help YPs become more engaged in the community.
As a not-for-profit group, Newton Young Professionals rely on partnerships with area business and industry. Keeping the dues as low as possible encourages membership, which benefits not only you as the member, but benefits your employer and the entire local economy by having more engaged and informed citizens and a larger tax base. Businesses can contribute to the greater cause in several ways:
NYP incurs regular expenses of printing marketing material, logoed apparel, food and space for events, website maintenance, etc. By offering your services to our organization, you provide support to the entire community, gain exposure for your business, and allow for a significant tax deduction.
Become an annual sponsor. Being an NYP annual sponsor costs only $150 dollars, and allows your name and logo to be added to our print material and right here on our website all year long.
Being an event sponsor at the $350 level covers the cost of providing a location to hold an NYP event, as well as a light meal. It’s a fantastic way to expose a young demographic to the work that you do, thereby adding new customers who already spend time here in Harvey County.
